House Music, It's La Cosa Nostra

Summer Anthems: Laidback Luke/Katy Perry

As Electronic Dance Music enters arguably the first summer of its Golden Age, We can expect many of the massive summer tracks released by big producers to appeal to a wide audience. Could Laidback Luke have nailed it more tastefully with this release?

1) Last Friday Night (Laidback Luke Remix)-Katy Perry ***FUEGO***

This track has all the key ingredients of a massive summer anthem: 1) Its subject matter is a day of the week, meaning it will get played in every club on every Friday night, that you can just about guarantee. 2) It has the simple, singable lyrics that even the drunkest, jappiest girl couldn’t possibly screw up, but no extensive vocal break that makes it unappealing to DJs 3) Guitar Break! 4) Dreamy Synths 5) HUGE DROP.

Sweedest Dreams

The best Swede Dreams remix came from…wait for it…A Frenchman?

Apparently, as Gregori Klosman drops this bomb on his Soundcloud today. Guess where you’ll be able to download it on June 6th? I got you fam.

1)Swede Dreams (Gregori Klosman Remix)-Avicii

I was joking on the B10 facebook page just now that if these two guys keep it up, very soon my entire DJ sets are going to be nothing but Klosman/Nicky Romero tracks…

As usual, Kopedale always on the scene first. I’ve got mad love for his blogging grind lately; I mean, the homie basically discovered Mord Fustang. Now, everyone’s on Mord’s diddick, and yet Kopedale just sits there with this smug “I told you so.” grin on his face on his face. What a guy. Prutataaa.

1)Prutataaa (Original Mix)-Afrojack feat. DJ R3hab ***FUEGO***

R3hab reminds me of a young Afrojack, which is good, because maybe he’s exactly what ‘Jack needed to get back to being his normal, jovial, beat-dropping self, instead of dropping weird awful tracks like Amanda and Doin’ It Right.

With love,

Missed a Spot

Sometimes, songs that are meant to be posted never grace the fine pages of Big10. It’s a shame though because many of these tracks are profound accomplishments and merit your download. Here are 3 doozies that are finally getting their moment.

1)Together (Original Mix)-Swanky Tunes feat. Mr. V.I. ***FUEGO***

This was probably the biggest no-brainer. Swanky Tunes have been getting so much love from SHM and Laidback, and this track was last month’s #1 on Laidback Luke’s monthly Top 10. Rightfully so, it’s a massive tune. No wonder then that it got played during the Masquerade Motel.

2)Strobe (Michael Woods Remix)-Deadmau5 *Hot*

Somehow, I had never heard this remix until yesterday. I knew Woods was working very closely with D5, and opening for him at all his tour stops, but apparently this was the remix that put him on the Mau5’s radar. It has a bass-line very similar to Cthulu Sleeps, infused on top of Strobe. some sampling/editing but for the most part with a masterpiece like Strobe you really don’t want to tamper too much with the original when you’re remixing it.

3) Rock Your Body Rock (Original Mix)-Ferry Corsten ***OLD FUEGO***

THIS is an oldie but goodie. 8 years old to be exact. Why does it merit posting now then? Because I’ll be making a trip to Chicago this coming Monday to see Ferry rock The Mid. First time seeing him in 6 years. Can’t wait.

Madeon! (Major Bandwaggon Jumping)

Consider today the day where I officially announce my Mancrush for Madeon, the 16-Year-Old French House Producer who is on an absolute tear as of late. After winning D5’s official “Raise Your Weapon” remix contest, the young gun has gained worldwide acclaim. Don’t let his age fool you though, this is not a gimmick…This boy has raw disco-house talent.

In other news…STREAMING IS BACK!

1) Raise Your Weapon (Madeon Remix)-Deadmau5

Madeon takes the heavy dubstep track and turns it into something that oozes neon.

2)The Island (Madeon Remix)-Pendulum

Love the synthy, new-wave sound that Madeon has captured. It’s an amalgam of 80’s, Complextro, and a plethora of other genres. I wasn’t hooked on Madeon though until I heard what he did to the song at the 3:20 mark. Wow.
