House Music, It's La Cosa Nostra

Disco Villains

Justin Markell showed me this last night, and to be honest, I think it may be the best music video I’ve ever seen.

I figured what better way to accompany the video than with three songs that make me want to get buck.

1) We are your friends (Disco Villains Remix)

This remix does a wonderful job of coming up with a completely different sound while maintaining the familiarity of the original. Too many remixes rest on the laurels of the success of the original track, feeling hesitant to venture into uncharted territory with the original track as their compass. In this regard, the Disco Villains deserve commendation for taking a chance on this track and yielding terrific results

2) Work It (Justin Faust Remix)-Missy Elliot

It needs to be said that Missy Elliot remains one of my favorite artists growing up. Her major hits have all been so catchy. I think a lot of this has to do with Timbaland’s unique sound, but this electro remix shows that Elliot’s lyrics and flow are just as much a factor in the grand scheme of things.

Bonus: Hungry Like the Wolf- Duran Duran

This is one of my favorite songs to party to of all time. I believe it was right after seeing Old School for the first time, where they use this song during the Andy Dick “blowjob class” scene, that I truly began appreciating it, but ever since it has become a mainstay in my sets, primarily because it is a 128 BPM masterpiece that can be sandwiched between two house bangers. Regardless, It belongs in your ITunes Catalogue if it isn’t already, so download.
